Irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected.
Examples of Situational Irony:
General Sedgwick’s last words were, “They couldn’t hit an elephant at this distance.”
Bill Gates uses an Apple computer.
Irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected.
- Situation Irony occurs when there is a contrast between what would seem appropriate and what really happens or when what we expect to happen is in fact the opposite of what really does take place.
- When what actually happens is the opposite of what is expected.
- Something about the situation is completely unexpected.
